    Here's my top 5

    1 Netflix

Great for watching tv series I missed on their first go round

    2 HBO Go

    Side-loaded on JB

    3 Encore Play
    Subscription Based
    Sideloaded
Loads slow but has a lot of content

    4 Sirius/XM
    Subscription based

    5 Viki
A lot of classic TV shows

Most TV shows work on 1chan. If not, icefilms works.

    2. Netflix

    3. TV Portal
Has the largest selection of obscure TV content

    4. Mitty
    Torrents.

    5. Navi X
    Everything else.

How did you get Soul Movie Player's apk? Would love to try it on my GS7.

Ah, do you think it might work on the GS7? All I can see is the Pro version which costs a small amount and claims to be incompatible. It's really not obvious how to get an apk onto the GS7 if you pay for it and install it on an Android tablet. Is there some kind of magically trick?

    Side loading-

Enable allow install from unknown sources in your settings.

Copy or download apk to your device. Use a USB flash drive. Then use a file manager to click or launch the apk to initiate the install process.

So this method will work with paid apps? Whenever I try to move paid apps to dropbox I always get an error. I haven't tried to move them to an SD card though

And here's a free copy of Soul Player from the Playstore that's supposed to work with GTV

Use something like FileExpert to back up your apk. After you do that, you should be able to move them where ever.

Whether this works for your app or not depends whether it does any sort of validation with plays tore to see if you own it. Also whether it will run depends on compatibility too.

If I install the app on my Samsung Note 8 tablet then does the apk live somewhere I can access? I don't see how you get the apk file to download without it being lost after installation.

Is there some utility that can capture the apk?

Yes, I did enable installation from unknown sources. The Play store won't let you just download and save the apk. There must be some other step.

Fileexpert has an app backup function. Stores the apk in a directory on your SD card called backu p_apps. You can copy from that directory and move them to your target device. We have been using this method for over 2-3 years now.

If you are rooted, you can also use titanium backup to save and restore programs across different devices.

By side loading, we are bypassing the playstore to install programs. It's just a way to install apps without downloading from the playstore. It won't work if the app is incompatible with your device or if the app validates your license - in the case of newer paid apps. You are not getting something for free.

This method is not guaranteed to work all the time but it works often.

I definitely need to add ViMu to my list, the best media player app.

Well neither my GS7 nor my Samsung tablet is rooted. I have been able to download free apk's to a NAS and install them from there using ES Explorer. But I can't save a bought apk on my Samsung in a way I can move it to a NAS where my GS7 can access it.

Most of the apk's I have side loaded have worked fine. Those that haven't just need access to the hardware ( video players) and that doesn't so much require an updated OS as better access to hardware. It doesn't seem to be 3.2 that is the issue as the different libraries that other Android 3.2's use.

I have used it for ages but it's not ideal. Somehow my video apps that use external players work better with other players. Still pretty good but it needs better hardware access. The Plex people seem to be able to do more.

I have owned the app for about 2 years but I only recently started using local files often enough with Google TV that I am getting to use it enough to justify owning it. Plex is used often now as well, both are among my favorite apps.
