Xtreamer is announcing their latest media streamer, the Xtreamer Prodigy, which can also double as a home and remote server courtesy of its NFS and DDnS functionality. The new Xtreamer Prodigy makes use of Realtek’s 1185 chipset, which allows the device to support full 1080p HD video with 7.1 channel DTS-HD Master Audio and Dolby TrueHD passthrough surround sound. Prodigy provides 512MB of DDR3 memory, USB 3.0 connectivity, Gigabit Ethernet (optional Wi-Fi 802.11n dongle available), support for up to a 3TB hard drive, memory card slot, SPDIF, HDMI, and other nice goodies.

Prodigy also boasts a Flash-based UI and an Opera web browser with full HTML5 compatibility. Speaking of HTML5… Prodigy supports a number of web based technologies that developers can leverage to create unique apps for the platform, though it already includes support for Netflix, Facebook, Google Talk, GrooveShark, MegaVideo, Pandora, Last.fm, MLB, Mediafly, Shoutcast, and YouTube XL out of the box.

Price and availability will be revealed March 1, 2011. If the device works as good as it looks, Xtreamer Prodigy should be a winner — not too sure about the Flash-based GUI decision, though. By the way, Xtreamer Prodigy supports those mini wireless keyboards we’ve been seeing (I’d pick up this version) and it also has an optional passive cooling unit you can use to get rid of the internal fan.
