Will it do channel search?

    My favorite part of google tv is that I can say cbs and it goes there... or the name of a show and it goes there. Does the amazon product interact with the cable box this way or is it just streaming. If it is, then it doesn't compare at all to googletv

    ^ It does not. There is no "HDMI in" on the Fire TV. Agree this is a big convenience with proper "Google TV" implementations.

    There is no HDMI IN so it doesn't interact with a cable box - however the Fire TV has a nice feature called "ASAP":

    **Another feature that Amazon is touting is called "ASAP," it's basically a way for the Fire TV to pre-cache the video it thinks you're most likely to watch. Assuming that Amazon can guess right, it could be a big deal - video queued up starts immediately with no waiting.**
