TV3 targets US with Google TV app | News | C21Media (click for full article) "Spain's TV3 has launched an app for the Google TV platform as it targets the US as part of a new online distribution strategy for its international channel TV3Cat. TV3, part of Catalan-language pubcaster Televisió de Catalunya, said the move makes it the first Spanish network to have a dedicated presence on Google TV devices, which are currently available only in the US. The app will give access to thousands of videos on demand and is being rolled out to coincide with the closure of the TV3Cat satellite feed. "It is one of the steps that Televisió de Catalunya is making to promote the broadcasting of channel TV3Cat," the company said in a statement. TV3 has already launched similar apps for Sony, Philips, LG and Sharp smart TVs and other platforms like the Sony PlayStation 3 console, Windows Media Center and Spanish TV provider ONO's TiVo service. Google TV, a platform based on Google's Android operating system, launched in the US last year. Though the first generation of Google TV sets and set-top boxes got off to a lacklustre start, the firm has since refreshed its software and brought in new partners. Last year, Google chairman Eric Schmidt said that Google TV would launch in Europe in 2012, with the UK market one of its "top priorities." Barcelona-based TV3 is a Catalan-language network, owned by the Catalan Broadcasting Corporation. It first launched in 1983."
