AKA voice search: How will this work on devices such as this one without a mic on the remote? This better be supported in Canada ASAP and other countries besides the USA as there will be a lot of miffed GTV users who feel like 2nd rate customers! So I guess now I wait for a G3 GTV box that has a mic buit into the remote and this feature to be launched in other countries?

For those second generation GTV devices without a mic on the remote - you will use your mobile device for the new voice integration.

Has it been confirmed that you will be able to use your phone or is that just a guess?

Yes I can use my voice with the google app on my iphone also but that is just to do basic searches and change the channel, not the new stuff that is coming soon.

Google TV update adds voice control, taps into Knowledge Graph — Online Video News

    From the above article:

"The new version of Google TV, which is still based on Honeycomb, will come to LG TVs first - which is a good match, in part because LG TVs already have a remote control with an integrated microphone. It will be made available to second-generation Sony streaming devices as well as the Vizio CoStar in the coming months, and Google will give those users the option to use their mobile phone for voice input."

But we don't even have the TV and Movies/ Prime available outside the USA. What a joke!

Hmm I hope that article is correct. The video of the Google TV hangout had someone ask that question at about the 27 minute 20 second mark and they didn't say an app was coming to the phone yet to allow this. They did however say "not yet" #!

I love our Sony 2nd gen GTV, but for the life of me I don't understand why voice control is appealing. It just seems very odd to me. It's not as though one is driving a car while controlling the device.

What would be nice would be the ability to change the channels on a cable box via HDMI CEC instead of using an ir blaster.

Interesting idea but not a deal breaker for most IMHO! Primetime being only available to USA residents is a deal breaker for me so long as this condition exists no new GTV box for me. This could be a blessing as perhaps a new box with a mic built into the remote will be released while this eventually gets rolled out in other countries? Speaking commands to your TV is cool because it is something right out of Star Trek!

My 1st gen Sony supports HDMI-CEC. Does the 2nd gen not?

The NSZ-GS7 does support HDMI CEC for turning off the Sony box whenever you turn your tv off (I think it causes a problem with my box when this is turned on connected to our Samsung tv so I turned it off)
It however does not support changing channels on your satellite or cable box through hdmi. I know I can change channels on our ipads or our iphones via the wifi connection using the Directv app though.

pmcd did you plug in and set the ir blaster in a good position for your devices? I can be in another room and change channels or volume or whatever with our NSZ-GS7 remote.

Changing the channels and so on works fine without the ir blaster extension. Not perfect, but ok. I don't care for ir extensions. They have caused no end of problems when trying to position them with the Motorola VIP 12xx. There are tons of threads, not related to Google TV, dealing with the ideal positioning of ir blasters for the VIP 12xx. Just seems like a very antiquated way of doing things. In any case I positioned the Sony to the left of the VIP 12xx on the same level and it works ok with both that box and my LG TV.

Ok. Works fine here with the included ir blaster.
