NSZ-GS8 adds voice search ready remote Review by Digital News on 10 June 2013. Posted in News from the Web
    [IMG]
Sony has just announced a new Google TV set-top box, the NSZ-GS8. Apparently replacing last year's NSZ-GS7 that lead the charge of second generation ARM-powered Google TV hardware, this one appears to be quite similar. As seen in the picture above (check after the break to see the old remote for comparison) it adds a microphone this time around, necessary to enable the voice search features added to the Google TV platform last fall. We're not seeing any other changes, but we'll let you know if we hear of any differences. In lieu of actual new devices, Google TV fans can at least take heart that Sony is continuing development on the platform -- good to hear after the NSZ-GP9 Blu-ray player that was also announced last year ended up being cancelled prior to its release. Like its predecessor, the NSZ-GS8 carries a sticker price of $199 and should reach stores by early July.

I can't find a thing anywhere on the NSZ-GS8 other than speculation, the above links were dead for me hours ago when I first tried.

From the latest release of the NSZ-GS7 service manual there appears to be no difference to the GS7 to the GS8. From this i would assume the only difference will be the remote control model NSG-MR7U

I suggested that would be the likely difference a month or two ago when this model number was first discussed. I sure hoped it would include a better processor and 2 GB RAM but I expected only the new voice remote to differentiate the two models. This makes sense, I don't think we will see anything truly new in 2013 but Google TV appears to be doing well enough now that new hardware is likely in 2014.

IMO new hardware is very questionable at this juncture. Sales are currently slow - so much will depend on how the market responds to the GTV Jellybean update. There is a decent chance that the Jellybean update will breathe new life ino the GTV platform - and thus hardware partners would show continued interest. Without a sales boost from the Jellybean update - all bets are off for new GTV hardware.

I agree whole heartily. If the rumored NGZ-GS8 is the 7 with the voice control remote, then I got the latest Sony Google TV. I hope that the this box does get the latest firmware.

All of the GTV devices with ARM processors are supposed to receive the Jellybean update.

I wasn't really looking forward to a new Sony Box. But my Logitech Revue has gone stir crazy. It's sounding like a race car stuck in 2nd gear. Its so loud I had to finally disconnect it. Actually, I'm enjoying using my desktop in this group. No delay waiting for videos to load. I might just wait & see what comes down the road.

As was already mentioned in the forum - the upcoming Sony NSZ-GS8 is most likely the same box as the NSZ-GS7 - with the only difference being that the NSZ-GS8 will come with the remote that has the microphone.

Same dual core processor as the Co-Star and G7, yet the price is still $199.99, same dog, different collar as the G7 (Willie Slick Sony) .... Xbox One TV you are still looking good baby, even with a little controversy ....
