I have chromecasts connected to 3 TVs & was wondering if it is possible to stream content from an av receiver to these TVs. A dual zone avr that can output via wifi perhaps.

What AVR can output via Wi-Fi? I will say no, even if there is such an AVR. I have my Chromecast connected to an AVR which is how I would recommend using a Chromecast. You might look at Plex as a method to play content through Chromecast from a computer but if you want to be able to playback cable TV or DirecTV or DVDs or Blu-ray discs or whatever else you are using with an AVR, sent to Chromecast over Wi-Fi, I would say that feature isn't coming.

I'm trying to replace my dodgy av sender/receiver system with a wifi solution. At the moment my avr selects from all av sources & outputs this via zone 2 to av sender & thus to other TVs.

A typical AVR won't digitize the signal. You'd need something like a Slingbox, but they don't support protected HDMI.
