Report: Google Nexus 9 is an HTC tablet with NVIDIA Tegra K1 - Liliputing (click for full article)

    by Brad Linder - June 21, 2014

-- Google’s next Nexus tablet may be a model with an 8.9 inch display and an NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor. Android Police reports that multiple sources have told them about the tablet, and they have a photo showing an early (and possibly inaccurate) image.

The tablet is said to be manufactured by HTC, and it’s due out some time in the fourth quarter of 2014, when it will launch alongside the next major version of Android (with a dessert-themed name starting with L).

Early models are reportedly already in the hands of some Google employees, and the company is apparently referring to the tablet as the Nexus 9, although that could change. It’s expected to launch for $399 and up… although that could also change.

According to Android Police, the Nexus 9 has an 8.9 inch, 2048 x 1440 pixel display, measures 0.31 inches thick, weighs less than 15 ounces, has 2GB of RAM, 16GB to 32GB of storage, an 8MP rear camera with optical image stabilization, and a 3MP front camera.

It’s said to be powered by the 64-bit version of NVIDIA’s Tegra K1 processor.

Google is rumored to be phasing out the Nexus program in favor of something called Android Silver, which would have a handful of smartphone and tablet makers offering Googley versions of their devices in the future. So the Nexus 9 could be one of the last Nexus devices… if it’s real, and if it launches this year.

    Weird.

My computer monitor is 16:10 (not 4:3) and it's terrific for "productivity".

Maybe they should go with more screen and less bezel?

Interesting - according to The Wall Street Journal Google decided to go with the Taiwanese firm HTC to prevent manufacturing partners like Samsung from having too much power over its Android platform.

HTC resurrected their image with the M8 line and came out with a Google Play edition version of it, and they want to get in to the tablet market. It's a sensible match.

Without being able to read each OEM actually proposed, it's unfair to insinuate that Samsung was snubbed because they've become too big. HTC has a lot to gain by participating, while Samsung's Galaxy line is well established.

Is this the Google Nexus 9 tablet? - Liliputing (click for full article)

10/06/2014 at 9:09 AM by Brad Linder

Google’s got a new Nexus tablet on the way. It’s probably built by HTC. It probably has a 8.9 inch high-resolution display and an NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor.

Rumors about the Google Nexus 9 have been making the rounds for months, and they’ve even been (partially and perhaps accidentally) confirmed by chip maker NVIDIA.

Now @upleaks has posted what may be one of the first pictures of the tablet in the wild.

Google’s Nexus 9 tablet will very likely be the showcase device for its Android L software due to the choice of chip. Normally a Nexus phone is used for that purpose, but all signs are pointing to a 32-bit chip inside the Nexus 6 handset and Android L is Google’s first 64-bit version of its mobile software. Nvidia’s Tegra K1 is 64-bit compatible and should take full advantage of the updated software.

HTC exec confirms Nexus 9, says it is the company’s new “commitment” to tablets | 9to5Google (click for full article)

    Summary:

Thanks to various leaks over the past few weeks, HTC’s Nexus 9 tablet has been all but confirmed. This morning, though, HTC’s president of North Asia Jack Tong reportedly told members of the press that the Nexus 9 is the company’s “commitment” to returning to the tablet market. This is significant because, despite all of the leaks, HTC has yet to formally acknowledge the existence of the tablet.
