I'll be purchasing a USB Device for use with a Logitech Revue Google TV in a few days time. Is there anything specific, in terms of specifications, that I need to take into account when shopping? I've never used nor purchased a USB device before.Should it be USB Flash or something else? Do I look for USB 2.0 or 3.0 or higher? Terabytes - Can a terabyte hold the entire printed content of the Library of Congress? I don't think I need something with that capacity.

I have used both USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 drives with Google TV, I could tell no difference for my purposes and don't recall if I even confirmed that 3.0 faster speeds are supported by any of the apps I have used, Mitty and various media players. I settled on 160GB and 500GB WD SATA drives desgined for use with TiVo in Rosewill RX-358 V2 external cases with my two Logitech Revues. I don't even recall if those are USB 2.0 or 3.0 enclosures. I have never had more than a 15 GB of data on the drives when connected to Google TV and can't imagine I will ever be wanting more storage. With my TiVos, I have almost 2TB of storage total and those drives are always almost full since I record suggestions. With my PlayLater DVR, I have a 1TB WD Elements external USB 2.0 drive, currently it has over 500GB of data. The other drive connected briefly to a Logitech Revue was a Fanton USB 3.0 2TB drive, it is strictly used for backups in the household now.

I could see needing a lot more storage for Google TV if I downloaded much but until there is an app for Google TV like PlayLater that makes writing streaming video to a hard drive easy and useful to me, I will continue to record and playback video using other devices and use Google TV for streaming from the internet, web browsing, email and other traditional internet uses.

If I needed additional Google TV storage and found a great deal on an external USB 2.0 5400 RPM drive, I wouldn't hesitate to buy it, I believe it would work well for the purpose. All of the drives I have used so far are 7200 RPM. I briefly used a 32 GB USB 2.0 flash drive without problems but I can't imagine that is a suitable use for that type of storage.

A Logitech Support Specialist wrote the following. Revue can read on the future upgrades USB device o... - Logitech Forums

The Logitech Revue supports USB 2.0 mass storage devices with the following specifications:
FAT or FAT32 format (up to 32 GB)
NTFS format (up to 2 TB).
If a compatible USB mass storage device is not recognized, Please perform the following:

Ensure only one mass storage device is plugged into Revue.
Unplug the USB mass storage device and plug it back into the Revue.
Navigate to Settings > Media Sources in Logitech Media Player and click Refresh to refresh the list. The USB mass storage device should now appear in the list.
Select the USB mass storage device and press OK.
NOTE: USB mass storage devices with capacity greater than 2 terabytes are not supported. If your USB mass storage device uses an external power supply, it must be connected to a power source before attempting to connect it to the Revue.

As of now, our Logitech Revue only supports USB 2.0 Technology.

I highly recommend to use one of the option above for your USB Drive, that way you can enjoy your Logitech Revue to the fullest.

Seeing that I've never used a USB device before, I think I'll start out with a 32 GB USB 2.0 device. But FAT or FAT32?
