Quantitative Analyst, Google TV Ads - Mountain View

This position is based in Mountain View, CA.
    The area: Advertising Sales

At Google, we organize and change around our users and customers. Google's Advertising Sales team embodies that pursuit: We're devoted to finding relevant solutions that meet our clients' changing advertising needs. In that regard, Advertising Sales does more than simply make money for our company. Our efforts focus on the ways that Google technology enables the world's biggest advertisers to enjoy immediate and accountable communication with the consumer. Advertising Sales team members work hard to identify our clients' business challenges, to collaboratively shape solutions that drive their strategic initiatives, and to keep them educated and informed in the ways that current and future Google products can enhance their online and/or offline presence. The Google TV group that operates within Sales represents a relatively new initiative for Google, so the department and every job in it will continue to evolve and define itself.
The role: Quantitative Analyst, Google TV Ads

Television remains the single most important source of information and entertainment for billions of people around the world. We believe we can improve this vital medium by helping match advertisers to operators and programmers, delivering more relevant ads to viewers, providing more accurate and timely reporting on TV ad viewership, and creating efficiencies through the automated online marketplace we launched in 2008. We currently auction thousands of TV Ads every day, and collect anonymous data on the viewing behavior of millions of television households.
As a Quantitative Analyst, you will play a pivotal role in making Google's vision for TV a reality. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of engineers and analysts on a wide range of problems. This position will bring analytical rigor and statistical methods to the challenges of measuring ads quality on TV, looking into problems such as how to optimize both our ads quality and our revenue and how to build better models of TV viewing behavior.
    Responsibilities:

    • Research and develop methods for measuring and analyzing ads quality on TV.
    • Research new algorithms and methods for optimizing ads quality and revenue.
    • Research new ways for modeling TV viewing behavior.
    • Design experiments to answer targeted questions.
    • Provide general guidance on quantitative analysis methods to engineers on Google TV Ads.
    Requirements:

    • PhD preferred in CS or statistics, applied mathematics, operation research or related field; or MS with equivalent experience.
    • Substantial real-world experience, especially in areas of data analysis.
    • Expertise in statistical software (R, S-Plus, SAS, or similar).
    • Familiarity with machine learning and experiment design principles.
    • Proficiency with databases and scripting or programming languages (particularly Python or Java).
    • Ability to draw conclusions from data and recommend actions.
    • Demonstrated willingness to both teach others and learn new techniques.
