"A lot of people have been assuming Google is the most likely candidate to suffer at the hands of Facebook's ascendant advertising business. It's a belief underscored by Google's own Facebook fixation, as the search giant desperately tries to make Google+ a success.

Long-term, that may be true, especially as Google extends more beyond search advertising into video, mobile, and display ads. But as I've said before, Facebook is likely to be a better medium for branding than for direct-response advertising, which is what Google is best at. And that means television, the supreme ad medium for brand ads, is more squarely in the No. 1 social network's gunsights."
