    Plex app hits Google TV

    Nov 3rd 2011

    Streaming media service Plex has
launched a Google TV version, putting its IPTV content on the latest version of Google’s smart TV platform. All of the channels from the Android version of Plex are present, and the company says the “vast majority” of content will play, even with Google TV’s limited transcoding support.

The one omission is the remote control functionality, which means you won’t be able to control your laptop’s playback from the Google TV interface. Considering that was really intended to turn an Android phone into a remote, that’s probably no great loss. The Queue system is still present, so users can send videos to their to-watch list and then catch up with them later.

It’s also possible to stop watching a show on your phone and then pick up playback on your Google TV box, handy if you want to finish a film you started on the commute home. You’ll need a Google TV box
running v2.0 of the software in order to access Plex, which is a free download from the Android Market.

Will the Plex app work with a network computer to run Hulu or other internet TV sites on Google TV, currently blocking Google TV, but can be accessed by the computer? I am still trying to decide if I want to use a server like the pay TVersity or PlayOn versions or something else to get access to the couple of sites I want but can't get without that type of DLNA server. I would guess the answer is no but maybe that is something that can be added at some point?

don't stop there, tell us how you got it free please.

i was reading on the plex forums that the full client app is coming soon too. this app is nice, but the full client is nicer. i feel like google should just buy plex. they could call it googleplex. let the tv and movies app incorporate the plex media into its search function and that'd be a winner.

Is this stealing from the dev or is that a legit site?

No clue. I just type "Plex apk" on the Google search engine that was my first result.
