Is there a player that can play nearly all file-types/codecs for movies?

Type of connection does not matter (any more). But I do not want to run a server on another device.

Minimum requirements are basics like mpg, mkv etc., basically all the common stuff you hav on your HD.

Images of DVD's (iso, img, ...) would be nice, but not required.

WDTV is the hands down winner for this category IMHO! It plays pretty much anything you can throw at it according to a trusted friend. I have seen it in action and it just works but it is not GTV!

I had this one before GTV.

    I sold it because:
When using metadata the device becomes so slow that it is unusable
Remote is bad (compared to sony), e.g. no possibility to search youtube quickly by entering via keyboard
UI is not responding fast enough.

I haven't seen any media player I like nearly as well as Google TV. I would look at the Sony NSZ-GP9 if it is released and as I mentioned in the previous thread you started on this issue, the NSZ-GT1 should play more files than the NSZ-GS7 although I don't know if it will handle everything you need either.

I am already using GTVBox, but it only plays the formats that are supported natevly by the NSZ-GS7.

I guess I will switch back to the WDTV.

Will really miss the great sony remote with keyboard and BT, integration of my Sony TV, HDMI-input, PIP, the fluent UI, ...

Kind of sad to use a worse device, but what can you do if it just does not play the videos you want to watch?!

Yip after being a GTV user for a year now it's still WDTV that wins hands down in this category. IHMO, they would be the best option for Google to use for a Nexus GTV if ever there was one in the works. The next best option could be the new Archos Android TV box mentioned on another thread here today. This is andriod and not GTV but it will be interesting to see if any made fr GTV App can be used on this new device when it is launched soon.

    http://www.googletvforum.org/forum/...rns-any-tv-into-android-powered-smart-tv.html

One would expect the vast codec support to be featured in this device to make it a viable option for users who require it.
