The problem was the HDMI cable that Bell TV (Espressvu) had supplied back in 2008 when I first got the Panasonic Viera. For some reason the satellite guy used a HDMI/DVI/DVI/HDMI combination cable. It worked fine with my Satellite box and later with my cable box. But with the GTV box, there was one pin with the wrong voltage that caused the Panny to declare a catastrophic failure. I just replaced the combo cable with a straight cable, and no more problem!
