Are you trying to use a USB powered hard drive? I wonder if you try to power it from a separate power supply or a powered USB hub will it work?

Might also try to use one of those cables on the drive that will take 1 port and connect it to 2 ports on the box. This will double the power to the drive.

My 1tb hard drive is USB powered and so is my 500gb is USB powered. I don't have a external powered hard drive to test. But I suspect that it has to be a size limit issue then.

    link .
Also, check your external HDD for hidden VCD (Virtual CD) partitions.

So far, I've played video & music (read) files from two usb flash drives formatted in NTFS & FAT32 (connected to Sony gtv) via "Google music" app & "aAia player" app
    w/o issues

Tested my NTFS flash drive and it got recognized. Attached my NTFS 500GB hard drive and it did not get recognized. Pre release software bug might be the reason. Hope Sony or Google fixes these issues.
Any luck with NTFS hard drives for anyone?

it has to be the size limit of the hard drive why it is not recognized because 500 ntfs or fat32 or fatex does not work

I think the issue is not the size of the drive but the power requirement for the hard drive.

USB 3.0 spec requires the source to provide 900mA while the USB 2.0 spec is only 500mA. It is really hard to believe that a hard drive can only work with 2.5W of power from a single port this is why many of the USB 2.0 vintage hard drives use a Y cable to pick up more power.

The NSZ-GS7 is using USB 2.0.

Using the following cable that I found on Amazon you can connect your hard drive to both ports and get 1A of power for your hard drive. It worked in my case.

I will go to best buy today and see If I can find one of those cords. My USB 3.0 1tb hard drive is powered fully by plugging it straight in the USB 2.0 500gb doesn't power up with straight plug and play.

Hey I'm not to this forum but i found it in my searches for possible solutions to my NSZ-GS7 issues. I have a power external USB drive that I plugged into the usb ports on the device and then everything starts flicker and the stb crashes. This is an Western Digital Elements 500GB drive formatted to NTFS. Has anyone else seen the system crash or has everyone just not had the drive show up?

This is indeed the issue. I've tried all alternatives for my 3.0 USB WD 1TB 2.5 Passport. I have formatted it to several different file systems and purchased the USB 2.0 adapter. All resulted in failed mount attempts. Unfortunately I'm still working on getting rid of the hidden VCD, which I am almost certain is the problem since my other HDDs without hidden VCDs are now working.
