Has anyone noticed they they have a new YouTube LeanBack page.

I originally opted in to use lean back a few weeks back and it was working quite well.
2 days ago i got a new interface and has a Netflix type feel to it.
    However its horrible.

    1) it force closes real easy.
    2) when doing a search it hangs.
    3) the D-Pad direcitonal arrows do not work. you have to use the touch pad.

Has anyone else got this update. Does anyone know how to go back to the original youtube.
When i browse to w w w. youtube .com it takes me straight to leanback.
In the "New" leanback there is no options or settings (unlike the old LeanBack).

    Thanks,
    Matt

    Matt,

I noticed the update to Leanback also.

Leanback has always been a problem on Google TV.

For example, the previous version of Leanback gave one a choice of using a formatted for TV version or a formatted for PC version. For some reason, the PC formatted version played better on my Google TV.

I do a basic Google search for youtube.com and use Youtube that way rather than use Leanback.

    Thanks for the response.

I'd be interested to see if other users are having issues with the new LeanBack app. Specifically the Force Close and the lack of support for D-Pad use.
How could Google screw that one up especially seeing as google is telling Developers at Google I/O on how to make use of the D-Pad for upcoming HoneyComb apps.

I forgot to mention that im using the Revue so all you Sony users may not have these issues.

Okay dokey. I suppose it is necessary to remind you guys that the YouTube instance within the Bookmark drawer is a URL link to the YouTube website and not an app. Depending on your User Agent and the preferred settings you will either connect to YouTube - Broadcast Yourself. or YouTube - Leanback.

If you're seeing the "new and improved" YouTube Leanback interface on Google TV then most likely your Chrome Browser's User Agent is not set to default and is spoofing another platform. In which case, you'll see the interface that they're developing for "other devices" and looks like the screenshot below.

What didn't work?! I didn't give you instructions on how to use the alternate Leanback experience. And I can't give a "link straight to the new leanback" because it is the same youtube(dot)com/leanback URL. Apparently, you don't understand how the User Agent allows the website owners to give alternate views.

If you don't want to see the standard Google TV Leanback experience and want to try the alternate view then do the following steps.

    1. Open Chrome Web Browser from your Google TV device
    2. Press GTV Menu > Settings > Advanced > Mode > Generic
    3. Then open up http(colon)//youtube(dot)com/leanback
If you want to go back to the original Leanback experience then GTV Menu > Settings > Advanced > Mode > Default then reload the same URL.

I don't understand why. That works on both my Logitech Revue and the 24" Sony Internet TV. Even works very well on my friend's Home Theather Personal Computer (HTPC).

Yeah so eferz totally got this right. I'd changed my user agent and forgot.

So this issue can be marked as resolved.

    Thanks Eferz!!!

Eferz, I've tried the above and whether I set it to Generic or Default, I still am presented with the new leanback experience. The issue with me is that it takes much longer to load a video than the previous leanback experience. What prefer for it to be the way it was before. I noticed the new youtube leanback a few days ago. Also, when I try accessing the standard youtube website on chrome, it always takes me back to the leanback version. Is there a way to disable this and simply go to the actual youtube website? Thanks for your expertise.

The new Leanback version of YouTube as shown in Message #5 can be returned to the older version by
selecting "Custom" as the "User Agent" from the "Browser Settings" (?) menu.

I've found the version of Leanback as shown in Message #5 to be difficult to work with. I tried to search
this morning for Mahalia Jackson videos and got scores of irrelevant videos.
