On Monday there were stories about Disney, parent company of ABC, talking with Google. Disney’s main concern, which is probably true of the other networks as well, is that Google TV doesn’t block pirated content. Today, Google announced on it’s public policy blog that it is taking new steps to help prevent copyright infringement. Though these are good steps to take in any case, there can be no doubt that they are being enacted now as a gesture to lure the networks back to the table, and hopefully find a way they can be comfortable offering their content through Google TV. I suspect this is part of an agreement that will return the networks to Google TV before the holidays, and hopefully give Google TV a boost in sales, overcoming the bad press it’s been getting lately.
