I am new to the Google TV (android) world. I feel like I need to know the apps that everyone has. What are your "go-to" apps? What are the must have apps? Please post your recommendations.
I considered these to be the must-have apps for Google TV - 1) Airtight - Airplay for GoogleTV 2) Plex Media Server 3) Able Remote 4) Dropbox 5) Google Currents 6) TweetDeck 7) Pandora 8) Spotify 9) Dolphin Browser HD 10) Classy Fireplace All these apps are available in the Android Market. Everyone will certainly have one of these apps.
Mine are 1. Plex 2. Airtight 3. GTVbox 4. Dropbox (sideload) 5. Redux TV 6. Mitty (Haven't used) 7. Pandora/Slacker 8. Orientation Control (sideload) That's all I got for now.
You have to sideload it. In order to install it first you will have to go to System Settings>Applications and select Unkown Sources. This allows you to install non-market applications. Once done on your Google TV in Chrome go to this link I provided Dropbox APK and click the download button. Your Google TV will download the apk file. Then go to your notifications. One notification will be Dropbox apk successfully downloaded. Click it and it will bring up an installation window and you can install it just like that. After installation Dropbox will appear in your app section. Good luck.
Here is one of several earlier threads trying to offer a list, it was abandoned about 7 months ago but might include some good suggestions for someone interested in taking the time to read and install a few. As far as apps in the Google Play Android marketplace versus apps that must be sideloaded, I think it might be a good idea to have separate threads, I would ignore the marketplace thread since I know about those or can figure out a lot from reading the description and reviews. http://www.googletvforum.org/forum/google-tv-apps/4047-working-apps-google-tv.html

I have extracted the ALL the apps from the Co-Star v5.3.0 and a lot of paid apps too ... I will never ever post pay apps, I agree, support the developer ... Does anyone have Vimu player apk? Yes, I have it, the developer is member of this forum one of us and a nice guy, buy it from Google Play, support the developer always ...
you can try the vimu player lite first.... it's really work great. Sent from my TC970 (Wi-Fi) using Tapatalk 2
Sorry, should have been clear. I bought the app for my costar, but i have a rockchip on another tv and i am unable to downlowd the app to this device. I want to side load on the device. Any advice how to extract app from co-star?
When I began with the Revue, then later the Co-star..they made a believer out of me with Pandora among many other apps.. ever notice how we still have radio stations but everything is now either Pandora or iheartradio? Now if Google or someone would give us iheartradio or something like Pandora where you can still surf the net and not have to stand on the same screen that would be great!! wish they had more 3D apps this one for the fireplace blew my mind!
the one thing about the vimu I noticed if you like your song in order.for some reason when I had it,it mixed the order on my flash drive..so when I played it in my car later on..it would go from 1..to 4..2..6..9..5..you get the idea..there's another player that's a freebie but I cannot think of it at the moment
Can someone recommend something better than ES File Explorer? I need something that sees network shares & lets me copy/paste or drag/drop. Anything with layout similar to Windows Explorer? ES Explorer, I had to upload images to the web, and then download them using http urls which was a pain. Thanks in Advance. Edit: I just sat down and dug deeper into ES Explorer. It's not as bad as I'd assumed. It does scan and find all computers on the LAN, and with root access. I was also able to copy/paste folders across the LAN.
You guys should also try "EverNote, FilmOn, and FlipBoard" (most popular). I also sideloaded Instagram, but it wont run at all.
I'd rather Google Drive via Chrome browser; 15GB free storage with Google docs right there (office suite). Also includes PicasaWeb photo albums; and a hundred other Apps. Use the mini mobile layout for your phone or tablet (m.google.com or phone app); and you're synced.
if you like movies and tv show you should have 1channal on your googleTV player. It cost $4 for the app to help dev for future. 1channal work flawless with my vizio co-star. If you an afford $8 amonth for netflix... give this a try. Sent from my TC970 (Wi-Fi) using Tapatalk 2
