Mobile device to HDTV connection: Apple TV, Chromecast, Kindle Fire HDX compared - NBC News.com (click for full article)

-- There's a cool new trick possible with a growing number of products: the ability to wirelessly send what's on your mobile device (or computer) up onto your TV. Apple's had this for a while with their products, and now Google, Amazon and others are getting into the act.

It's a feature that's still in its infancy, so it's not perfect, but it's getting there. The experience is also pretty different depending on what devices you've got/are interested in.

    Let's take a look.

The Allcast app is available now and it's supposed to work with GTV. It streams local content from mobile android devices to the TV:

From what I've read the Miracast (mirroring) adapters are still a bit underwhelming in terms of performance. Here is a thread with a hands-on comparison of Chromecast to the Tronsmart T1000 wireless display adapter. (Currently Chromecast doesn't mirror mobile devices - although it's rumored that this functionality is coming with a future update):

Here is a hands-on review of the new Avia Chromecast app that let's you send local content from your mobile device to TV:

Also you can use your mobile device as a remote control to "fling" content to your GTV. This is not the same thing as mirroring - and you can only fling content that is natively supported by your GTV. A good app for doing this with mobile devices is the "Able Remote":

And there is a Chrome extension that you can use to fling content from your PC to your GTV called "Chromemote". The PC acts as a remote control to fling a URL. Once again this is not the same thing as mirroring - so only content that is natively supported on your GTV will "fling" successfully.

    They all suck.

Apple AirPlay may be the best of what's out there right now, but Apple lets Apps block it if they want, and if that's the App you want to watch on your TV ... then what good is it?

On the bright side, it does sounds like some of the Apps which didn't used to enable AirPlay have recently added support.

There are more and more dongles that can connect the mobile devices to the HDTV. Here you can compare these following dongles for your choice.
