Security firm McAfee has released a report projecting which technologies will be the most susceptible to viruses, malware and spyware in 2011, and Google TV has made the cut. Joining the ranks of smartphones, URL shortening services, geolocation services like Foursquare, and Apple products, Google TV can potentially fall victim to malicious apps and phishing sites which will give an attacker access to a user's personal information.

Now before you go dust off your tinfoil hat, understand that just about any piece of technology can be compromised, so there is no reason to dump your Google TV device in favor of another offering. Google TV is based on Android, and like any other OS, Android comes with its fair share of vulnerabilities and bugs. Like most things in life, you just have to use some common sense and be careful which sites you visit, which email links you open, and when the time comes, which apps you install. Rest assured though, that if evidence of a major security threat to Google TV becomes known, we'll have all the details for you.
