TCL working on local content for Google TV - Home Cinema: Blu-ray, PVRs, Speakers and Projectors (click for full article)

    By Nic Healey | January 9, 2013

Summary: TCL is working with partners including Quickflix to provide Australian content for its launch of MoVo with Google TV.

"TCL has recently increased its push into the Australian market, and the company hopes to create new partnerships with video content owners as it prepares to launch the MoVo with Google TV.

MoVo comes as either a set-top box, or TCL has a TV with the hardware incorporated. It's a Google TV 3.0 service, running on the Marvell processor architecture.

Previous attempts to get Google TV up and running with Australian consumers suffered from a lack of content available for Australian users.

TCL told CNET Australia at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2013 that it is working with local partners to include a number of local video content sources, including catch-up TV and video on demand - both SBS On Demand and Quickflix were named.

The MoVo also has voice search capabilities, and, on TVs with an integrated camera, it will actually recognise individual users and tailor its content screens based on viewing and search history.

No date is set for the MoVo's launch in Australia."

This New Google TV Watches You And Chooses Shows Based On Your Behavior - Business Insider (click for full article)

"In the new world of technology, television is not just for watching. It is also watching you.

So-called smart TVs being unveiled this week at the International Consumer Electronics Show offer technologies that watch the viewer, in an effort to offer more relevant programming.

The idea may sound eerie to those familiar with George Orwell's novel "1984" but people in the industry say this is the next step in the evolution of TV viewing.

Chinese manufacturer TCL unveiled at the show a new TV and set-top box to be sold later this year in the US using the Google TV platform which recognizes who is watching in order to suggest potential programs.

The new TV developed with Marvell Technology Group uses sensors and voice recognition to determine who is viewing and can offer streamed or live programs which appear to appeal to an individual or family."
