The good news is that the Logitech Revue WILL support media stored on an external storage device. The bad news is that it cannot be larger than 40GB, and it must be formatted as FAT32. This likely means using a flash drive for your files (a 32GB would seem best since a 64GB would be to large and probably not be recognized). See details below.

Update: Up to 895GB is now supported, see details here.

How do I play or view content from a USB mass storage device with Logitech Media Player?

To use a USB storage device to play or view content:

Connect the USB storage device to either of the two USB ports on the back of your Revue.

If your USB storage device is not listed in the Logitech Media player, select Rescan sources.

NOTE: USB mass storage device will need to be formatted in FAT32 and will not recognise NTFS. The USB mass storage device will require being less than 40 gigabytes to get recognised on your Revue.

Here are the media formats that are supported:

Music: AAC (.aac), FLAC (.flac), MP3 (.mp3), OGG (.ogg),WMA (.wma)
Photos: JPEG (.jpg, .jpeg), BMP (.bmp) PNG (.png), TIFF (.tiff)
Videos: WMV (VC-1) (.asf .wma .wmv), WMV (VC-1) + WMA (.asf .wma .wmv), WMV + WMA (.avi), Xvid (H-264) + AAC (.avi),
    Xvid (H-264) + AAC (.mp4), Xvid (H-264) + AAC (.mt2s .mt2), Xvid (MPEG4part2) + AAC (.avi), Xvid (MPEG4part2) + MP3 (.avi)

Says this was true back in October. I was looking for first-hand accounts. :)

Not even an issue anymore. Logitech has opened support for NTFS formatted stoage via USB. Up to 2TB. FAT32 does still work up to the 800+ GB.
