Many downloads are appearing in mkv format. Do I have to convert them to avi in order to play them?

VLC 1.10 is supposed to play them. Which DLNA server supports VLC?

    Thanks,

    Geoff

I use the windows media player to stream movies to googletv. install DIVX player and all available codec pack in windows 7. add all mkv movies in the 'my videos' folder. this shows up in your media player list in google tv. select the mkv you want and play. 720p plays flawlessly but 1080p lags, i think its due to limitation of my wireless modem.
    hope this helps

Windows Media Player is okay, and gets the job done, but it won't play everything. To get the most out of your Google TV's media player you need to use the "Playstation Media Server", it transcodes the files like MKV that won't play on their own and its full 1080p.
