Confirmed to work without a hardware mod!

    From the forum:
    --------------------------------------------------
galfert, you are correct. This requires no modification to the box as its just a Logitech Revue update. The only requirement is that you have a thumb drive > 128MB to place the update on.

A quick note however, as logitech and others have stated. The update is not bug free and in our opinion is probably not ready for general consumer use. Some may however see it as an improvement to the current state of the revue (regardless of its bugs).
    --------------------------------------------------

I can't wait until they have instructions available!

This 3.1 update is currently loaded with bugs and not ready for public use. This is a disappointment as after ALL THIS TIME we are probably a minumum of 2 months away (at best) from the official update. (if it ever comes) This 3.1 update is probably currently worse than what we have now - or Google would roll out the new update if it was an improvement over our current state of affairs.

    From the Forum:

"What are the bugs - how bad is it, really?

"It's pretty bad, and the downside is there is no way to downgrade! So once you've updated to 3.1 regardless of if you like it or not, your stuck".

From logitechs CEO on conference call today:

De Luca followed up and noted that Google TV will get new software at the end of September with an app market. It's a major update to the platform. It's what the platform should always have been, particularly the addition of the App Store for Android apps for the TV he said. The good news is that all these beautiful new things will run on the existing box.

Looks like end of September is confirmed!

Yeah the umpteenth time a general time frame has been 'confirmed'. Just a few weeks ago Logitech 'confirmed' the update for late August. Did you read the part about how it's still loaded with bugs? I'm not holding my breath. And in a Wall Street Journal article earlier today a Google representative promised the update "by the end of the year".

Looks like they updated their response to me:
"Edit: Actually, I'd say this is still significantly better even with its bugs than the current update."

So for now it is all still vaporware until we see it for the masses

    Sad..

The more this plays out the more it feels like Webtv days

    Anyone feel me?

    Just my thoughts as usual

I've actually chatted with the GTVHacker team a number of times on the IRC channels, and in particular zenofex. I would say this is legitimate. They have probably found a signed WIP package on a Logitech server, and successfully done a manual install (happens all the time with Android).

I think they will be true to their word...

I got into GoogleTV with the understanding that I was an early adopter .. the delays and set-backs definitely suck, but Android is a 'make this up as we go' technology, and no question about it, this IS the future.

+1 on getting my hands on that update file ..

I'm a total novice about hacking and computers. In fact I don't own a computer. Thus I have a few questions 1) Do a need a computer to install this hack? 2) How much does a 'thumb drive' cost and where can I buy one?

    1. Most likely yes

    2. The cost anything from 5 to 30 dollars depending on the size you want. You can get them pretty much anywhere, walmart, best buy they all have them. I personally have one of these.

Just to clarify #1, you would only need a computer to get the update file on to the thumb drive. Once you have the file on the drive, you can do the test with a few key combinations from the Logitech controller.

You could always ask someone else to place the file on the thumb drive for you...
