it plays all my media, avi, xvid, mkv that i have stored via windows shared files (SMB) it plays video encoded with dts on mine but does not on my sons google tv. i guess because of the bluray drive it got a few extra codecs. i love it now.. before it was nothing special. also the new os has nice intergration with dish net.

    good luck,
    George

It's not difficult. I can actually play some ".VOB" files by renaming the extension to ".MPG" with File Expert. After all VOB files are just MPEG2 multimedia containers. It is just depends if there's any Content Scramble System (CSS) applied to container and if the encapsulated multimedia streams can be decoded by a compatible Google TV codec.

how do you map the smb shares? I can't get it GTV Box to connect to any of my shares. My server is called htpc.. I have shared a folder called movies... I'm not using a domain..

Try using the ip address of your SMB server and the respective share name. e.g., "\\192.168.0.10\isharepiratewarez"

I know 1.99 is not a lot of money. I just would like more input on the usefulness of this app.

Wow, they're charging for it now? While it was in "beta" the app was "okay" in my opinion. The thing that annoyed me is that it didn't have the ability exit. I suppose if you want to stream via SMB with selectable audio/subtitles it is the only option right now.
