This news is actually from yesterday, but it really deserves to be on the "front page" of the site. At Google I/O yesterday, it was announced that Google TV will be receiving the Android 3.1 update and the Android Market this summer.

This is fantastic news for Google TV, as it means that Google will finally start pushing it toward the forefront of their marketing efforts. The Android Market coming to Google TV is the best part of this news, as it will finally put more power, control and versatility in Google TV. This will also help drive customers to Google TV, as it makes for great marketing. Several TV manufacturers are on-board including Samsung, Vizio, Logitech and Sony. What do you guys think of this exciting news?

Nice, but not enough. I've had Google TV since Xmas (Logitech), and it would really be useless without Netflix. It's called Google TV, and TV content is what's needed, period. Give me (unblocked) Hulu, and I'll be a happy camper.

Having 3.1 will help to open the door to getting access even if the networks do not want to give it up, and if we still can't get around it, this will open up better alternatives. My favorite source for watching show online is icefilms and in their forums they have ways to watch on phones and tablets. That means as soon as we get the new version we will be ready to go. Trust me, this may not be announcements on content deals, but it may be better.

Well, that's certainly encouraging. Can you watch icefilms on Google TV? I've really not heard of it, so thanks for the heads up; can't wait to check it out.

Not currently but you can on phones and tablets thanks to some apps in the market. That is why I am optimistic.

The fact that Hulu won't get onboard isn't important. Android Market and YouTube are now offering video rentals. It's only a matter of time until there are a few competitors to Hulu that have the same capabilities.

sony blue ray only have 200 ram memory and Logitech google tv has 4g of ram. does this affect some apps since some apps will require more ram memory?

Right now almost all the youtube videos I see labeled google tv are actually just the logitech revue box. I rarely see videos showing the actual sony televisions in action. It does not seem to me that Sony is pushing their google tv sets very well and if they were smart they would be putting more user videos of it in action on youtube.

So crawling around all I see are outdated forums regarding the elusive GTV update. Sparky hasn't heard anything since July 1st. Lots of sites claiming something by end of summer...

    End of summer in

    3...
    2...
    1...
    .....

    I'm sad

I have had a Google TV since Christmas and was very disappointed when there was no market. I have complained to Sony several times and have threaten a lawsuit since when I bought the TV the advertisement said the TV would have android market. I bought the G1 phone years ago and was thrilled by all the open source concept. I assumed a google TV would work like the google phone. Wrong. Sony has been responsive and will be offering me some discounts on their other products. Still, I bought the TV for it's connectivity. Has anyone else complained to Sony about this issue? They continue to say market will come, but never a date.

First we heard March, then May, then by the end of Summer. For most people the end of Summer is Labor Day weekend. By late September the kids are back in school, the NFL will be well underway, and MLBs regular season will be drawing to a close. Logitech is right to call you out on this Google. You've taken far too long to deliver on this and if were Logitech or SONY, I'd tell you to GFY.
