"The number of video plays on tablets, mobile devices and connected TVs worldwide nearly doubled in the fourth quarter of 2011 compared to the previous quarter, according to a new report from US firm Ooyala, a provider of digital video technology, analytics and services.

Ooyala hosts one of the world's largest video analytics data stores, receiving over 1 billion daily analytics "pings" or data queries across more than 110 countries each month.

Other key findings from the report include: both iPhone (boosted by the iPhone 4S release in October) and Android platforms grew rapidly on a quarterly basis in terms of videos played and hours watched; Facebook users on average share ten times more video than Twitter users; tablet viewers continue to be far more engaged than desktop viewers, being 45% more likely to complete at least 75% of videos played; and finally, video plays on Google TV devices increased 91%."
