Thanks for the news. I downloaded the Google Play Movie & TV app to my Logitech Revue - and unfortunately I found out that it's totally useless for me. This is because my Revue is stuck on the 3.1 OS - and cannot be updated (my Revue shipped from the factory with corrupt firmware).

After I installed the app - I got the following message on a red screen:

"The System Software installed on your device is too old, please update it to the latest version." -:(

Catfishrivers - the update is not just the app I am told but also a firmware update as well that makes the app native or something like that. The Sony devices will be the first to get the updates and then the other devices follow later on.

As usual with the google firmware updates it's all random on who gets it first so except if your a sony google tv user you'll get it before the logitech update. Hopefully when the update is pushed out your device will accept it instead of rejecting it.

credo - I am still waiting for my update :) I was told the updates will be sent out randomly so its not location based and I don't think you can force the update either or I would :)

I got the vizio co star with no new firmware update. I was still able to download and use the play movies, only difference is it takes me to the web based play store to purchase/watch the movies.

Over on the Logitech Revue forum - the moderators (Logitech Support Specialists) are acting like that don't even understand what this update is all about. The latest is that they can't give "confirmation" that the Revue will receive the update until they talk to their "superiors" first:

Google TV Play Store Update - Logitech Forums

    From the Logitech thread:

"Re: Google TV Play Store UpdateOptions
    10-10-2012 06:31 PM

    Hello washappenindude,

Currently at work I can't view the link you've provided. I currently have the 1.2.0 for the Google Play Store. Is this the issue? Please advise. Also is the update your speaking about available yet?

    Best Regards,
    Sergio
    Logitech Support Specialist."

and then there was this post:

    Hello washappenindude,

So far I have not received word about this. I'll check with my superiors on this one, so I may provide a more adequate response.

    Best Regards,
    Sergio

The Sony devices are getting the update first and then the revues should get the updates later :)

I hope that you are right about the Revue. I wish that I could share your optimism about it. I think within about 2 months time - that is near the 1 year anniversary time when Logitech stopped selling new Revues - and thus this time frame is also when Logitech will no longer have any 1 year Revue warranties to honor.

Apparently "Sergio" (the Logitech Revue Specialist) has talked to his superiors and made a new post in the Logitech thread about this issue. Sergio is now saying Revue owners should contact Google about the update. Here is his latest post:

    "10-13-2012 01:55 PM

    Hello wazhappenindude,

Can you please check with Google about this update.

Hmmmm. Well I noticed that Sergio added a disclaimer to his post about his post not being the official view of Logitech. Not sure what to make of it... Keeping my fingers crossed.

I'm thinking that since this is actually an OS update (and not like just a "tweak to the GTV TV & Movie app" - that before the update goes out to Logitech devices - Logitech must update their drivers (because Logitech supplies the drivers for the hardware).

So even though technically Google could roll out this update to Logitech Revues from Google servers - IMO they cannot do that until Logitech is finished incorporating the base OS update (supplied by Google) - with their (Logitech) drivers.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Device_driver

I think there is a chance that if Logitech is bailing out completely - they could turn over the necessary code and let Google handle the entire update.

    Hi

From what I understand this is a Firmware upgrade across the entire GTV platform. Which means the Google Play store is undergoing a major change. I don't think it is possible to only upgrade some units and not all to incorporate Google play. I think the concerns about the Logitech Revue not receiving the upgrade are not based on anything factual from Google or Logitech.

Logitech drivers, etc., would have already been worked out way before the Upgrade was announced. Unless Google abandons the platform altogether Logitech will continue to make the needed upgrades to facilitate Google software changes. Logitech has too many peripherals invested in this device. Keyboards, remotes, and webcams are still being used w/this device.

Remember, Logitech's fan base jumped feet first on this device. Their help center is still fielding questions dealing w/logitech products that work w/the Revue.

    Just my views...

    Carl
