    Illustration of Various Setups
    ----------------------------------------------------

You can watch all the available Entertainments Network by (simultaneously) connecting Cable/Sat boxes & Streaming Media Players through Google TV boxes.
To take advantage of GTV PiP & multi tasking features (see Figure
    1& 2 below).

    link .

    Figure (1)

    AV Receiver (GTV PiP) setup:

    This setup supports 5.1/7.1 surround sound (5.1DD, 5.1DD+ & 7.1DD+).
Also supports stereo sound (2ch PCM).

STBs > HDMI > AV Receiver > HDMI > Google TV > HDMI > TV ................ (for STBs audio & video)

Google TV > Optical > AV Receiver .......................(for Google TV audio)

    HDMI switch-box (GTV PiP) setup:

This setup ONLY supports stereo sound (2ch PCM).

    STBs > HDMI > Switch-box > HDMI > Google TV > HDMI > TV ................ (for audio & video)

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    link .

    Figure (3)

Cable/DVR to GTV - AV Receiver setup:
    This setup supports 5.1/7.1 surround sound (5.1DD, 5.1DD+ & 7.1DD+).
Also supports stereo sound (2ch PCM).

    Cable/DVR > HDMI > Google TV > HDMI > AV Receiver > HDMI > TV ................ (for audio & video)
STBs > HDMI > AV Receiver > HDMI > TV ................ (for audio & video)

    AV Receiver (standard) setup:

    This setup supports 5.1/7.1 surround sound (5.1DD, 5.1DD+ & 7.1DD+).
Also supports stereo sound (2ch PCM).

STBs > HDMI > AV Receiver > HDMI > TV ................ (for audio & video)

    GTV (HDMI) AV Receiver setup:

    This setup supports 5.1/7.1 surround sound (5.1DD, 5.1DD+ & 7.1DD+).
Also supports stereo sound (2ch PCM).

    TV (Optical) AV Receiver setup:

This setup supports 5.1 surround sound (5.1DD & 5.1DTS) passthrough to the AV Receiver.
Also, supports stereo sound (2ch PCM).
But, it does not support Dolby Digital Plus (7.1DD+ or 5.1DD+) passthrough.

    * The TV must be equipped with optical-out-port that supports incoming 5.1 audio signal over HDMI (in order to pass it through to the AV Receiver)

    * Some TVs equipped with Optical-out-port may only support incoming OTA 5.1 audio signal (but not the incoming audio signal over HDMI).

    * Some TVs equipped with Optical-out-port may support incoming 5.1 audio signal over HDMI. However, the 5.1 audio signal maybe downmix to only 2ch PCM (stereo)

(same for (HDMI) ARC connections, it may downmix the 5.1 audio signal to only 2ch PCM (stereo).

On the picture of the connectivity ports on the Co-Star it says "None" for the USB port even though the picture clearly shows it does have one. You do list that it has one later in the comparisons between the 3 Google TV devices.

Also the connectivity pic says the Roku3 has an USB port but I don't see it on the pic, is it located somewhere else on the device? I do see it has a micro sd slot.

One last thing, what is different about this thread than the one already posted?

The HDMI port on the Roku 3 is labeled as HDMI in the connections picture but it has to be HDMI out, otherwise how would the audio/video signal leave the device? ;)

Same thing for the Apple TV.

Glad you're watching. I'll just make it "HDMI-out" unless you have a better suggestion :D
& have another look @ the chart, when u get a chance.

Thanks for all of your work putting this together. This is the first time I have noticed the Sony NSZ-GS7 has dual band Wi-Fi, 5GHz and 2.4GHz. Apparently the only Google TV box to date that does.

OK, good to get that straight. I don't have a dual band router in use although I own one. I am getting great coverage throughout the house with 2.4GHz so I have never bothered to hook it up.

2.4GHz is fine. 5GHz is mainly for crowded Wi-Fi environment. But I found the 5GHz noticeably works better with tablets. Actually I rather connect all stationary devices to GB switches.

There is some limited MPEG-2 support for the Vizio Co-Star, there was another thread about this and that was what we determined. I can't speak to specifics, I don't have any MPEG-2 files and I don't have a Co-Star but it is probably worth figuring out. I am sure Alexander Kolychev can explain MPEG-2 handling with the various boxes, what works and what doesn't. Hopefully he will stop by and help us out.
