It’s full speed ahead for Google’s VP8 video codec. Now that the bulk of YouTube’s video has been converted, the next task was hardware decoding. Today, Google has unveiled Anthill hardware VP8 decoding solution that is faster and more efficient than current software solutions.

The first Anthill was called H1, which can playback 1080p video at 30 FPS and 720p at 60 FPS. As a main hand slap of Android, Google hope the manufacturer of Android and Google TV to integrate VP8 decoder in their equipments. No details in this aspect recently.

H.64 may not be silent any more with the strength of VP8; tort litigation may be waiting for Google to solve.
