CNET has a very thorough article on the piracy issue and Google. Apparently there are those that think Schmidt's statements have the hidden meaning that Google is more or less giving up on securing further big content deals for Google TV. (Witness there launch of the music locker service without the approval of the record companies). However Google officially came out with a statement that backtracked a lot of what Schmidt said. Apparently Schmidt has a history of making off-the-cuff remarks. The thing about this new proposed privacy law is that it gives the government the absolute authority to shut down any web site they want to without any kind of real hard evidence, court hearing, legal proceeeding etc. Does Eric Schmidt speak for Google on copyright? | Media Maverick - CNET News
