I have the 40" Sony Google TV and a Sony Blu Ray DVD player hooked up with an HDMI Cable. The Sony Google TV Remote has full control of the DVD player. It seems to be controlling the DVD player through the HDMI cable rather than directly.

I don't have any idea if this would work with any other brand of DVD players. But it does work for my setup.

sprank1's experience is a result of HDMI CEC feature of some TVs and DVD players. Both the TV and the DVD player have to support this feature. Sony calls it Bravia Sync. It isn't really a Google TV feature. This feature may have limited support if the brands of the devices are different.
