Btw, The co-star should work in this fashion.

From my understanding, when a non-IR-remote/keyboard are in use (Android phone, iPhone, tablets or revue keyboard), a two-way (Bluetooth) communication between the unit & the Costars's remote will send IR commands (via remote IR blaster) to control TV/STB. here.

Updated here - after firmware update version U2.3.1-R :)

Another (hopefully concise) set of tips for Co-Star remote control. Posted on another thread (Bluetooth problems) as well.

If no response from the remote right at the opening welcome screen, the remote is not in IR mode, and this is required to select OK and start the setup process. Perform these steps:

    1. With the RC keyboard side up, press “Q”+”=”+spacebar (all three keys) simultaneously and hold for 5-10 seconds.
    2. Remove the battery pack, wait 5 seconds and slide back in.
    3. This should reset the remote and return it to IR mode
Tip: Use your phone camera, point it at the top of the remote, press volume key on remote to see if IR is firing

If the remote was previously paired, first remove and replace the battery pack. That re-initializes the remote and should re-connect.

To test whether the remote is in BlueTooth mode, try using the touchpad. If no response, the remote is not paired. Follow steps below to pair.

    Go to Settings->Devices->Bluetooth

    1. Select the existing BT connection (if it exists), scroll down and select Delete
    2. The screen will return to BT, no devices should be listed
    3. Press Blue button and Record (Red button above with transport keys) simultaneously for 5-10 seconds
    4. Select Pair, hit Ok
    5. Verify Remote is found
    6. Select the remote and press OK one more time to complete Pairing.
    7. You should get a message confirming "Pairing Successful".

One other tip.. there is a pointer speed control setting for the trackpad. Settings-Devices->Pointer->Pointer Speed

This is how my system is setup:Satillite>DirecTV 24-500receiver>Co-Star>Bose V25 avr (also has WDTV HD media streamer and a PS3 connected)>Vizio SV472XVT television.
I have everything connected via 1.4 high speed HDMI cable.
I have followed all tips on unplugging all components from from the wall source and disconnecting all connecting HDMI cables then reconnecting the power and HDMI cables in the recommended order. Everything will play fine for about a weekor 2 and then the handshake/HDCP handshake problem will start again. It does not happen with any of the other devices that are passed through the Bose avr. The post recommends changing the AVR to 720p which I have done. It also recommendes changing the the HDMI/HDCP settings but I can not access that setting on the Bose.
In my searching I read were others having this problem bought a HDMI/HDCP compliant switch and that it fixes the problem though it has not worked for everyone.
If I were to buy one of these switches where in the connection chain would I put it, ie: btw the DirecTV receiver and the Co-Star or btw the Co-Star and the Bose avr?

The chances on those hdmi switches are 50/50. Introducing one more device into the hdmi chain may cause issues w/ DirecTV receiver.

Anyway, if you insist ;) there are several ways to connect the switch,

    DirecTV > Co-Star > switch > Bose > TV
    PS3 > switch > Bose > TV
    WDTV > switch > Bose > TV

If the switch has optical out.

    DirecTV > Co-Star > switch > TV
    PS3 > switch > TV
    WDTV > switch > TV
    Switch > optical > Bose

    =============================

    Now, without the switch,

You need to find out which device(s) is/are causing the issue? by connecting directly to the TV, then use optical.

To check that, remove PS3 & WDTV from Bose,

    Keep, DirecTV > Co-Star > Bose > TV

    PS3 >TV
    PS3 > Optical > Bose

    WDTV >TV
    WDTV > Optical > Bose

    Try it for few weeks.

    ========================================

If the issue persists and your TV optical-out jack supports 5.1DD (over hdmi-in signal not just OTA signal) - connect as follow,

Remove DirecTV & Co-Star from Bose,

    DirecTV > Co-Star > TV
    TV > Optical > Bose

    PS3 > Bose > TV
    WDTV > Bose > TV

    Try it for few weeks.

    ===========================

Or you can also try this,

    DirecTV > Bose > Co-Star > TV
    TV > Optical > Bose

    PS3 > Bose > TV
    WDTV > Bose > TV

    Good luck :)

OPkay, I have isolated it to the DirecTV>Co-Star. My wife tells that when it happens to her and I am not here to complicate a simple problem(Ha,Ha) all she does is power everything off, unplug the HDMI cables from the "in and Out" ports and unplug the power cord from the Co-Star, wait for 30 seconds, then plug the HDMI cables back in and then start turning every thing back on in reverse order, TV> Bose>Co-Star>DirecTV. and that it works for her 95% of the time. Go figure, what do I know? What I would like to do is to prevent it from happening at all.

Then i presume ignoring it, is not an option. :D Now, we need to figure out what the best way to prevent it.

    Try this,

    DirecTV > hdmi > Co-Star > hdmi > TV.... (TV hdmi-input1)
    TV > Optical > Bose

    PS3 > hdmi > Bose > hdmi > TV............ ( TV hdmi-input2)
    WDTV > hdmi > Bose > hdmi > TV........ ( TV hdmi-input2)

Set the TV "Digital Audio Out" to "Dolby Digital" (not PCM).

Btw, before all that, I'd first test the optical connection between TV > Bose.

    Good luck :)

[h=2][IMG] Tips and Tricks to make your Co-Star Experience Better[/h]
    1. Make sure your firmware is up to date (ver. 3.5 released 12/12/12)
    2. TNT OT on nba.com streams some nice quality basketball games so search for that.
    3. Download amo Navi-X from the Play Store. It's worth the little 2-3 bucks you pay. Almost unlimited amount of content.
    4. Google search "Aptoide" in your Co Stars browser and download it, its an app market that let's you install what you want. (Make sure app is compatible)
    5. You can go to 4shared.com, sign up if you haven't already and download apks straight from your browser.
    6. The Co Star is compatible with the Playstation 3 so you can HDMI out it and do PIP (picture in picture) with it, *Google search, check emails or do whatever you want to do while gaming lol* Settings>Video and Audio Devices>Blu-Ray Player. Type the brand "Sony" and when they ask you for a model number type in PS3. They will ask another question just say yes and viola, your PS3 and Co-Star are now a tandem! *You still have to use the PS3 controller to navigate around but the Co Star does control its Blu-Ray basic functions.
If you find a website that you like that has streaming content or whatever, go to your options in the Chrome browser and save it to your homepage. It turns the link into an app sorta.

    Hope this helps somebody!

Tip: using CoStar remote to control a(bluetooth enabled) PC, Mac, Laptop or other device,
    1. First Unpair Costar's remote, (from the keyboard side) Press the following three keys simultaneously [Q] [=] [Space bar].
    2. Remove then reinsert al the batteries from the remote (remote should be now reset to factory defaults “IR mode”).
    3. To pair the Costar's remote with a PC, while the PC is scanning for a Bluetooth device… > Press and hold on the remote the following two buttons simultaneously [Blue] [Record] (same as pairing the remote with CoStar box).

I have been trying to connect the vizio remote to my PC and it has failed to connect. This forum is the only place on the internet where it says the vizio costar remote can be paired with a pc. Any additional help with making this happen would be greatly appreciated as I would like to use this remote on a media PC now. There doesn't seem to be any PC drivers in existance for the Vizio XRA 700 Remote Control.

Thank you. I was hoping to keep getting a new remote as last resort. If you can in fact use the vizio remote that came with the copilot on a pc that would be ideal.

What makes this EFOiPazzPort better than:

<Not sure if this has been addressed - tried searching the forums and couldn't find this specific fix, so if this is repetitive, please delete.>

When briefly switching between inputs on my TV, I switched back to the Co-Star's HDMI input and discovered that this seemed to have triggered the audio to stop working, not just on the apps but Live TV as well. Rebooting didn't resolve.

    Then I tried:

Press [V] button > select “Settings” > “Audio” > "Reset Audio to Defaults"

    Issue resolved.

I had read the cache getting full can cause this but here is a quick fix to try.
