AllCast streams video from Android to Roku, Apple TV, Xbox, Smart TV, and DLNA (click for full article)

-- Though Google made changes that unintentionally halted AllCast, an app that supported streaming video from an Android device to Chromecast, Allcast's developer has bounced back with support for several other streaming services.

AllCast now works with Apple TV, Roku, Xbox One and Xbox 360, Sony PS3, Samsung Smart TVs, and several other devices that support DLNA. The app has been shown on beta as able to "Cast to ALL the things" as a way of showcasing its enhanced flexibility. There are now multiple ways for the app to share the video stored on a local smartphone or tablet to a bigger screen.

A temporary beta app is shown below that will cease working on December 1, meaning we can expect an updated beta version by then, leading up to an official release. There are known issues with the HTC One, but most modern Android devices seem to be compatible. This version of AllCast does not support Chromecast, but in light of Google hosting a hackathon to encourage Chromecast development, that may change in the future. In the meantime, here's a demo of AllCast streaming to several different TV add-ons.

Any way to get the new AllCast Beta 7 to work with GTV? I don't have a mobile device to test it. Hopefully Allcast will eventually come to Chromecast.

Allcast Beta streams media from Android to TV (via Roku, Apple TV, Xbox etc) - Liliputing (click for full article)

    by Brad Linder - Dec. 2, 2013

-- CyanogenMod and ClockworkdMod developer Koushik Dutta has been working for months on software to let you stream audio or video files from your Android phone or tablet to your TV. Now you can sign up to try his Allcast Beta app.

It's available from the Google Play Store, but while it's in beta you'll need to sign up for a few testing groups on Google Plus and Google Play. You can find the details in Koush's announcement.

AllCast to gain Android to Chrome home screen mirroring (video) | 9to5Google (click for full article)

    by Mark Hearn - August 18, 2014

-- AllCast users will soon be able to easily mirror their Android device’s screen on a desktop thanks to an update from the app’s lead developer Koushik “Koush” Dutta. The media streaming software already features Chrome integration, letting users broadcast media to desktops and this appears to be the next step of its evolution.

This all became possible after a hack by Koush modified the app’s mirroring code to useH.264 instead of WebRTC/VP8. Unlike current offerings that are pretty much limited to the Nexus 5, this new update will bring full home screen mirroring support to most modern handsets. Dutta didn’t gave a specific release date for the update, but did say that it will be coming soon. In the meantime, here’s a brief look at the app in action.
