    by TechRadar - March 26, 2014

-- Does your TV have one-touch access to apps for BBC iPlayer, YouTube, Netflix, Lovefilm and Blinkbox? Not all smart, connected TVs are equal - they differ greatly in looks and apps - but all can get online, most using Wi-Fi.

There is no industry standard for smart TV, so every brand of television has a different platform of apps, though expect to find everything from sport, weather and on-demand video and movies to 3D content, games and social networking.

What's the best connected TV platform? That will depend on what you're after; some smart TV systems excel with a wide range of on-demand apps from UK TV channels, others with on-demand movies.

We've ranked the UK's major connected TV platforms in descending order, putting just as much emphasis on ease of use as app selection, to help you as you buy into a whole new generation of online television.

The new Philips smart TVs run android Jellybean software - but I don't believe these televisions have launched in the USA yet:

Spotify launches smart TV integration, signs deals with Phillips, Bose, and Panasonic | VentureBeat | Business | by Harrison Weber

Also at Google I/O in June it was announced that Phillips will be a partner for the new Android TV platform when it comes out in 2015. So I would think that there's a good chance the Phillips televisions running Android TV will have the Spotify smart TV integration.

TCL FS4610R (Roku TV) review - CNET (click for full review)

    Summary:

The Good: The TCL FS4610R series Roku TV delivers the simplest, slickest, most comprehensive Smart TV experience on the market. Its superb user interface puts apps and streaming video on the same plane as regular TV. It's also less expensive than just about any other Smart TV.

The Bad: Mediocre picture quality characterized by lighter black levels, inaccurate color, and weak uniformity. No Ethernet port.

The Bottom Line: The best Smart TV suite combined with extremely aggressive pricing makes the TCL Roku TV a phenomenal value despite its so-so picture quality.

Amazon UHD/4K Movies And TV Shows To Start Streaming In October - Forbes (click for full article)

    Summary:
Samsung has announced a content deal with Amazon that will enable its 2014 smart TVs to deliver Amazon’s debut Ultra High Definition (UHD)/4K streams from October.

As revealed in a statement by Samsung ahead of the IFA technology show in Berlin this week, these first Amazon UHD streams will be available via a new app for Samsung’s 2014 Smart TV platform. This app is scheduled to roll out on a global basis in October, so hopefully we won’t be faced with that all-too-common UHD/4K situation where some services are only available in certain territories.
